On the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death, the importance of cultural exchanges in Italian-Chinese relations

On October 23, 2024, an important celebratory event was held at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome to mark the death anniversary of Marco Polo, a symbolic figure in the historic relations between Italy and China.

The meeting, “On the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death, the importance of cultural exchanges in relations between Italy and China”, sponsored by the Parliamentary Association ’Friends of China,” was held in the Sala Regina of Palazzo Montecitorio and was a significant opportunity to reiterate the importance of cultural exchanges and the strengthening of friendship between the two countries.

After the institutional greeting of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, speakers included:

  • Gianmarco Mazzi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture
  • Jia Guide, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Italy
  • Vinicio Peluffo, President of the Parliamentary Association “Friends of China”
  • Tiziana Lippiello, Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice
  • Roberto Pella, President of the National Association of Italian Municipalities

The President of the Istituto Italo Cinese, Maria Rosa Azzolina, moderated the event and recalled the historical vocation of our Institute, which has been working since its establishment to increase cooperation between Italy and China in the cultural sphere.
