2019, Year of the Pig

Legend has it that before Buddha left his land, he summoned all the animals. But only 12 showed up. The first was the Rat, followed by Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. In order to thank them for their loyalty,  the Chinese calendar years were named after of the twelve animals. Moreover, most importantly, their souls would live in the hearts of those born in those years. In ancient Chinese cosmology, the Universe and everything around it is made up of five raw materials associated with the signs of animals: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. Each element is also associated with a color. 2019 is the year of the Pig.
