The conference “The integration of the Chinese community also goes through the regional health service” was held on April 8 in Milan, inside the Pirelli Hall, on the second floor of the skyscraper of the same name – an institutional symbol of the city and the seat of the Lombardy Region Council.
The event was organized by Istituto Italo Cinese and Lombardy Region Councilor Carlo Borghetti, Component of the Third Permanent Health Commission, with the support of the IRCCS National Cancer Institute Foundation in Milan, Associazione Centrale Cinese in Milan and ASST FBF-Sacco.
The purpose of the meeting was to promote an increasingly inclusive Public Health for the migrant communities in the city of Milan, with a special focus on the Chinese Community, among the most numerous in the city. In recent years, in fact, the Istituto Italo Cinese has worked in synergy with city and regional Chinese Associations, public institutions in the area and health institutions in Italy and China to put into practice various actions aimed at medical prevention.
Speakers reflected on the regional health situation and the inclusion policies needed, and on projects underway, or planned for the future, aimed at facilitating best practices in prevention.
The results and objectives of the CHINT study – a health prevention project coordinated by the IRCCS National Cancer Institute Foundation in Milan and the Istituto Italo Cinese – and upcoming planned activities were then presented during the conference. Of particular importance among these are the breast cancer prevention program dedicated to the Chinese female community in Milan and actions aimed at creating medical awareness that does not lose sight of the fundamental social and cultural component, through the arrangement of the appropriate cultural mediation services.
Joint efforts with regional institutions led to the important milestone of the opening of a counter dedicated to the medical care of the Chinese community within the Community House at 9 Via Farini in Milan, with qualified and adequately trained staff.
In fact, an orientation service by ASST FBF-Sacco, coordinated by Dr. Cristina Acquati, District Director Municipio 8, was available to communicate the initiative.
